This cardboard couch is a custom-built seating piece designed for events, exhibitions, and brand activations where seating needs to feel like part of the overall design.

We’ve used this style in exhibitions, immersive environments, and public installations where seating needs to carry the same design intent as everything around it.

How the Cardboard Couch Works

The couch is built from cardboard, engineered to handle real use across events and public environments.

Internally, the cardboard is reinforced through a series of interlocking layers that distribute weight evenly and keep the form stable.

Despite being lightweight compared to traditional furniture, it holds up well in high-traffic environments when designed to suit the use case.

Customisation, Branding and Sizing

This is where the couch becomes part of the experience rather than just furniture.

Visual finishes

  • natural kraft cardboard for a raw, minimal look
  • black or coloured board for a more refined finish
  • full CMYK printed graphics across all surfaces
  • brand colours, logos, and campaign visuals

Size flexibility

Sizing is tailored to the space and the number of people you need to seat.

Typical applications include:

  • compact 1 seat couches for smaller activations
  • longer seating runs for exhibitions and trade shows
  • larger seating zones for public installations or open spaces

We usually design around both capacity and how the couch sits visually within the space, not just the dimensions.

Sustainability

This couch is built using responsibly sourced cardboard, designed with both reuse and end-of-life in mind.

Cardboard is fully recyclable, but in most cases these builds are designed to be used more than once. Depending on the project, the couch can be:

  • reused across multiple events
  • stored and brought back for future activations
  • repurposed into new builds

Because the material is lightweight, transport has a lower impact compared to traditional furniture, especially for larger installations.

Production is also more efficient, with minimal offcuts and the ability to design around material usage.

Businesses are increasingly expected to consider their environmental impact, and materials like cardboard make it easier to create large-scale experiences without the same level of waste.

As part of the broader B Corp movement, businesses are working toward more responsible and regenerative ways of operating, where design decisions also consider people, materials, and long-term impact

Ideal Applications

This style of cardboard seating works well in spaces where function and design need to come together.

Common uses include:

  • exhibitions and gallery spaces
  • brand activations and experiential marketing
  • trade shows and conference lounges
  • theatre sets and stage environments
  • retail pop ups and window displays
  • workshops and community events
  • photo moments and interactive installations

It’s especially useful in environments where you want people to sit, stay, and engage with the space.

FAQs

How strong is the cardboard couch?

It’s designed to handle normal seating use across events and public environments. The internal structure spreads weight across multiple layers, which gives it strength without adding bulk.

We design each couch based on how it will be used, so strength is considered from the start.

Can the couch be reused?

Yes. Most builds are designed with reuse in mind, especially for exhibitions, touring installations, or recurring events.

How many times it can be reused depends on how it’s handled, transported, and stored.

Can we customise the shape and size?

Yes. We can adjust the length, number of seats, backrest height, armrest style, and overall shape to suit your space.

Can the couch be fully branded?

Yes. Full-surface printing is one of the most popular options.

You can apply brand colours, campaign artwork, patterns, or scenic designs across the entire piece so it feels fully integrated into the space.

Can it be shipped interstate?

Yes. These builds are regularly produced for projects across Australia. Transport is planned based on the size and scope of the build.

What is the typical lead time?

Most builds sit within a 2–4 week timeframe depending on complexity, size, and print requirements.

If you’re working to a tight deadline, it’s worth getting in touch early so we can plan around it.
